Overview

Spatially separated but socially connected. This fulldome film takes us on a journey through fragments of life across the human and natural worlds highlighting our connections and the challenges of interrelated networks.

Inspired by the biological idea of polydomy, where one ant colony lives across multiple nests that remain part of the same network, the film uses this concept as a metaphor for the modern world. Through fragments of everyday life and landscapes filmed in places such as Helsinki (Finland), Toulouse (France), Delhi, Goa, Jodhpur, Hampi (India), Cardiff, London, Brecon, Newport (UK), Hong Kong, Montreal (Canada), Hammerfest, Forsøl (Norway) and Madrid (Spain), it reveals patterns linking human activity, cities, nature and global systems.

Rather than following a traditional narrative, the film presents a visual montage that invites viewers to reflect on the interconnectedness of people and environments across the planet.

In this way, it takes inspiration from experimental documentaries like Baraka and Koyaanisqatsi, which also use powerful imagery from around the world to explore humanity’s relationship with nature and technology, but Polydomous presents this experience in a surrounding fulldome format that immerses the audience inside the visuals.
