Overview
Liminality is 4Pi’s live immersive dance performance developed for the UK-India Year of Culture in collaboration with the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) in Montreal. The live piece fuses contemporary dance, music and 360º filmmaking into an immersive experience that explores constant transition and change.
The work moves dancers between industrial landscapes and coastal environments in Wales and India, revealing shared rhythms and evolving relationships between the two countries while reducing geographic distance inside a fully immersive dome.
Liminality Live was created during a residency at SAT Montreal and was performed at the Satosphere (SAT’s 18 meter immersive dome) over 15 nights (from the 13th to the 31st of March) and was an official selection and presentation of FIFA (International Festival of Films on Art) and Printemps Numerique, the Digital Spring in Montreal.
Co-produced by 4Pi Productions and SAT and supported by Coreo Cymru, Danceworx, British Council Wales, and Wales Arts International, the piece premiered in Europe at the CULTVR Dome during Diffusion Festival 2019 as an innovative snapshot of cultural exchange presented through spatial immersion.

Audience Feedback
"Mind expanding, stimulating, surprising, I want more!"
Audience Feedback
"Liminality seems simple in its complexity, but without a doubt, a work of master was accomplished for the creation and the realization of this hybrid work. "
Emilie Plante, Pieuvre.ca
"The spectator is invited to dive into a parallel universe as soon as they enter the dome. Everything is done so that the audience feel cut off from the outside world. They are then able to engage fully in an experience that will remain etched in their memories. "
